Overview
Upon launching an app you get a "Please check your data connection" error. This article provides troubleshooting steps to isolate the network problem root cause and possibly fix the issue with your app not loading/responding.
Diagnosis
Upon launching an app, you received the following error message on your mobile device:
Please check your data connection
This means your device where the app is installed has a data connection issue. Your app needs to be online to function properly and since you have no data connection, the app fails.
Solution
You will need to either enable the wi-fi connection or your mobile data connection (3G/4G/5G) so that the app will have access to the internet.
To this end, try the steps below to isolate the issue. To identify the root cause of the network error, follow the hierarchy of the troubleshooting steps as outlined.
- Is the wifi network unsecured and freely available for customer use or do you need to login/authenticate/proxy to use it?
- Switch to mobile data to test if the app can connect and launch. - Are you in a corporate network?
- Switch to mobile data to test if the app can connect and launch. - Are all other app users facing the same issue?
- If you have another app, test it on the same device. Alternatively, test the same app on another device by connecting it to another network. - Are all other app platforms affected?
- Test the app on the platforms where you have it published. Try it with an iOS or Android device. - Is the data connection error received while performing a certain action? When exactly is the message received? Is it while launching the app or when accessing a specific feature?
- If the error message appeared after performing a specific action while in the app, try to exit the app and relaunch it. You can also try a device restart, reconnect to the network, and relaunch the app. - Check your device for any security apps that may be blocking the communication.
- If the device is a company-owned device, you might need to check with your network administrator.
Testing
Upon fixing the error and have access to data, your app will launch without this error message and you will be able to use it.
